Is it possible for a believer to live a truly holy life? This question has been debated by Christians, and Bible students, for literally centuries. Simply put, the Doctrine of Sanctification has to do with the believer’s righteous condition in Christ, and how God has equipped us to live a holy life.
Bible words related to “sanctification” are terms such as “holy” and “saint.” The basic meaning of all of these words is to be “set apart.” This book explores what it means for the believer to be set apart from sin and set apart unto God. Both the believer’s position as sanctified in Christ as well as his practice as it relates to sanctification will be discussed.
God’s desire for His people to be holy is simply expressed in both the Old and New Testaments. “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (Leviticus 11:44; ! Peter 1:16). Paul’s epistles also issue frequent calls to holiness: “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” (1 Thessalonians 4:7)
